Hi everyone, I’m Nate Mitten, Senior Manager, Property Standards & Improvements for Kimco. I source the best products, materials, and technology that Kimco should be using at our properties and look to leverage Kimco’s buying power through national procurement programs. In addition, I oversee the implementation of national programs, such as Gateway, Kimco’s Illumination lighting upgrades, and water submetering. Before joining the Kimco team, I consulted with property owners and managers on how to get the most out of their buildings in terms of comfort, performance, and profitability. These strategies touched every aspect of the building systems and their operation. I’ve also had the opportunity to publish several articles and speak at conferences about a variety of topics in the energy arena, including high performance buildings, solar energy, alternative transportation, and freshwater resources. As an engineer, I love the challenge of doing more with less -- innovatively balancing our goal to improve economic performance while also preserving our environment. I earned a bachelor’s degree in engineering from Messiah College and went on for a master’s degree and Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from the University of Florida. I enjoy a variety of outdoor activities and spending time in the mountains of North Carolina with my wife and two children.

This year, we entered the second phase of the program, spending over $6 million to upgrade to high-performance LED lighting at 62 of our Tier 1 properties.… Read More

As with most retail landlords, one of the biggest sources of energy consumption in our portfolio is exterior lighting at our shopping centers. That’s why we have prioritized our efforts to improve our properties’ lighting efficiency as part of Kimco’s overall sustainability program.… Read More
