A new look and local hangout for Villages at Urbana

Our retail centers across the country are constantly evolving, and our Villages at Urbana shopping center in Frederick, Maryland is no exception. The site team has been busy as the property recently underwent construction to make room for new retail and office tenants. To kick things off, we celebrated the grand opening of The Greene Turtle Sports Bar & Grille, a local hangout for food and drinks in a fun, casual atmosphere.

But that’s not all that’s been happening over at the Villages. Here’s what you may have missed.

We built Villages at Urbana 15 years ago from the ground up, and secured pre-approval to add three new buildings. The Giant grocery-anchored center is situated in a densely populated and affluent residential community drawing traffic from Washington D.C., Baltimore, and beyond. The area surrounding the city of Frederick, the second largest city in Maryland, has been growing in population thanks in part to an increase in housing projects in the area. As a result, we saw the need for more space at Villages at Urbana, and decided to put into action our original expansion plan.

The construction of the three new buildings is now complete, expanding the center by 36,000 square feet. The goal is to create a truly mixed-used destination, with the buildings encompassing retail on the first floor and office on the second.

The Greene Turtle had a fantastic grand opening on October 11, complete with the first 100 guests receiving a $10 restaurant reward every month for the next year. The Urbana location offers everything Greene Turtle fans have come to know and love—food, sports, and community—and an outdoor patio where customers can enjoy the center’s beautiful architecture.

We have more tenants scheduled to open this fall, including Manhattan Pizza, C2 Education, and Posh Bridal, which is expanding into a larger store within the center. We also plan to announce additional tenants later this year. By end of 2017, we anticipate being nearly 100 percent leased in the retail portion. Overall, we’re extremely pleased with the new construction and the progress made by our leasing team. We look forward to announcing new tenants to the Frederick community in the coming months.

Be sure to check back for updates!
