28 million small businesses across the country account for 54 percent of all U.S. sales, according to the Small Business Administration. At Kimco, we believe that small businesses are an important part of every community — and we do what we can to support them and help them thrive. In fact, we just announced an alliance with The SCORE Foundation — the philanthropic arm of SCORE, America’s premier source of free and confidential small business advice — focused on assisting entrepreneurs who are starting, operating, or managing small businesses. As part of the alliance, we are sponsoring SCORE’s development of a new educational program, while offering our retail expertise to SCORE clients along the way.

The program is specifically designed to benefit small businesses in the brick-and-mortar retail, service, and restaurant industries by offering new SCORE resources that they can take advantage of. For tenants and prospective tenants who wish to participate, this includes a small business “concierge service” — a dedicated contact providing small businesses an appropriate mentor based on their individual needs and access to training, counseling, and other services that will be available through SCORE’s local chapters or convenient web-based modules. The SCORE mentors are available to offer their expertise to owners and operators during any stage of their business, and it’s completely confidential.

We are passionate about doing our part to ensure that small businesses succeed. We hope that this latest offering with SCORE will enrich local economies by helping to build and grow small businesses, including veteran, minority and women-owned retailers, throughout the country. To learn how you can participate, contact your local SCORE chapter. If you are a Kimco tenant interested in finding a mentor, visit www.score.org/kimcorealty.
