An eventful start to spring at Kimco’s shopping centers
Spring is officially here, which means fun events for the entire family are sprouting up throughout Kimco’s portfolio. From Easter egg hunts to petting zoos, there’s something for everyone to enjoy at our neighborhood shopping centers.
Let’s take a look at a handful of events that are helping us kick off the spring season.
Mark your calendars for a spring carnival at 280 Metro Center in Colma, California on April 17. From 12 to 3 p.m., experience a fun, family afternoon filled with free activities including classic carnival games, music, cotton candy, popcorn, a balloon twister, and a face painter. Guests can also stop by retailer booths for free samples and special offers. The day is sure to be filled with entertainment for the whole family.
On March 26, we held our annual Braelinn Village Easter Egg Hunt in Peachtree City, Georgia. From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., attendees enjoyed two Easter egg hunts, a DJ, kids’ crafts, and lots of games and prizes. In addition, we held our golf cart parade and awarded a $50 Kroger gift card to the best decorated cart.
Over at Crossroads Plaza in Cary, North Carolina, community members came together for its annual Easter event. March 26 was a day full of family entertainment, including a DJ playing kids’ music, appearances from favorite Disney Frozen characters and the Easter bunny, face painting, kids’ make-and-take crafts with The Scrap Exchange, and an Easter egg hunt organized by age. The eggs were filled with surprises such as stuffed bunnies, hand stamps, mini flying saucers, toys, stickers, bunny masks, bubbles, and animal crackers.
Wexford Plaza in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania hosted the area’s largest Easter egg hunt on March 19. With three different age groups participating, children searched for thousands of hidden eggs, which contained treats or grand prize tickets. The tickets directed winners to stores throughout the shopping center where large prize baskets were waiting.
There was also a petting zoo, crafts, airbrush face painters, a magician, and the Easter bunny to keep attendees entertained throughout the day. Tenants offered their own individual activities as well.
We have several events happening at The Marketplace at Factoria in Bellevue, Washington this season.
The festivities started with an Easter party that took place on March 26. The event featured kids’ games, Easter card and craft stations, music by the Warm 106.9 FM team, and prizes and giveaways including Marketplace Easter-themed coloring books, 250 Easter bags, plush bunnies, six $25 merchant gift cards, and a grand prize $250 gift card.
Next up, the Great Cloth Diaper Change on April 23 from 10 to 2 p.m. held by a local cloth diaper company. This is a worldwide event that helps to raise money and support for the Real Diaper Association, a non-profit organization promoting the use of cloth diapers. We anticipate more than 400 attendees and 25 vendor tables at the event.
On May 7 at 1 p.m., the center will distribute 400 Gerbera daisies free of charge for its fifth annual Mother’s Day giveaway. Also on May 7, from 11 to 3 p.m., Marketplace will host Child Safety Day, an annual event supported by several local agencies. As part of the event, 50 free helmets are distributed and others sold, which are fitted on site. Featured guests include the Bellevue Fire Department with a fire truck and aid car, the Mercer Island Police Marine Patrol Unit with a speed boat, the Kirkland Police Department with a squad car and motorcycle, and the Bellevue Police Department with a squad car.
